Still high off of the fun of the Indie Hurricane, it is time to try to get things together and really plan for the upcoming year. There are already ideas floating about regarding events we can hold and attend, but nothing tying them together. This community has continues to change a lot and unless we come together and organize that it can quite easily change into something we don't like anymore and I don't think many of us would be happy with that.

Here is the suggestion:

Saturday, 11 April 2009 we attend a meeting at a not-yet decided location to make a few decisions about where we want the community to go and how to get it there. Bring thinking in this area and understand that there may very likely be some lack of agreement, but we really do want to bring as many of us together and become a stronger group.

Here are some questions which can form an agenda:
  • What is the direction of the community?
  • What do we need to move in that direction?
  • What sorts of events should we be holding?
  • How can we reinforce and maintain ties with other groups in Portland and the surrounding areas?
  • What can we do as a community to support our designers?
  • How can we improve our communication both within the community and without?

Please refrain from discussing the actual content of the meeting here, but please feel free to discuss the logistics and the agenda for the meeting as we do still need to decide on a venue and specific time of day and I'm sure this list isn't complete or may include items which we should put off for another time.

I'm free the 11th, most of the day.  I'd rather not go too late though.

I would like to come - but these sorts of events are hard for me to commit to.  I often have the kids all day.

Any idea where people would like to meet?

I'd be up for Saturday the 11th. As far as location goes, perhaps Angel at Guardian games wouldn't be opposed to letting us have some space for a couple hours? Support the community and industry and all that.

Otherwise I'd be for Arabian breeze, (you don't HAVE to order anything Nathanael, just get a drink) it's always pleasant.

Another item of business is: How can we better cross support the local retailers (which we have ideas for already).

We could also talk about who wants to set up the next event.

I'd be happy to do either Guardian or Arabian Breeze.

My vote is for guardian, simply because it is near the Side Door and I can get some rather inexpensive takeout there.

Ok, Jake, do you care to ask Angel if that would work to have it at Guardian? I think you have the best working relationship there of any of us planners.
